Chapter 129 Sarah pov.
I woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck. The world was spinning, and my stomach churned with the kind of nausea that madewant to crawl back into bed and never move again.
I blinked a few times, trying to shake off the dizziness, but it wasn't going away. In fact, it felt worse the more I tried to focus.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Sarah? You okay?" Richard's voice cut through the fog in my brain, and I turned to see him standing in the doorway, his brow furrowed with concern.
I forced myself to sit up, the room spinning even more now. "Yeah, I'm fine," I lied, waving my hand dismissively. I hated the idea of making him worry. I didn't want him to seelike this. "Just... just a little tired, that's all." He didn't buy it. I could see the way his eyes narrowed, the protective instinct kicking in. "You don't look fine, Sarah. You're pale, and you're shaking. Do you wantto call someone?" "No!" I nearly shouted, then winced as the movement made my head spin again. "No, I'm fine. I'm just... you know... a little sick. Pregnancy stuff." I managed a small smile, trying to reassure him, though it didn't really work. "I'll be okay. I promise." Richard didn't look convinced, but he didn't argue either. "Alright," he said slowly. "But you're not doing anything today, understand? I'm keeping an eye on you." I wanted to protest, but honestly, the thought of getting out of bed madewant to curl up into a ball. "I'm fine. Really. Just... maybe a nap later?" "Good," he said, his voice softening as he walked over to sit next to me. "Get srest. I'll handle everything today." "Thanks, Richard," I said, feeling guilty. I hated not being able to help. "I'll be fine, I promise. Just... need a little break." He kissed my forehead gently, his hand lingering on my shoulder. "Rest up, okay? I'll take care of everything." I nodded, closing my eyes. I knew he meant well, but I hated feeling so helpless. This was supposed to be our break-my tto relax, not spend it lying in bed feeling miserable.
A few hours later, I was still in bed, wrapped in blankets, trying to sleep off the sickness. I had finally managed to doze off when I heard a knock at the door. Richard opened it, and I heard Zoe's voice before I even saw her. "Richard, is she alive?" she called out in a teasing tone. "I heard she was flat on her back. Is the baby okay? Or are we dealing with a full-on crisis here?" Richard's laugh filled the room. "She's fine. Just smorning sickness. You know how it goes." I could already tell from the sound of their voices that Zoe was about to make things even more ridiculous than they needed to be. I opened my eyes to see her standing in the doorway, holding a large bag full of something. Her eyes were full of mischief, and I knew something was coming.
"Look what I got you!" she said, practically bouncing into the room. "Smaternity gifts from the local shop! I couldn't resist." She plopped the bag on the bed next to me, and I immediately spotted the ridiculousness of it all. Out of the bag, she pulled a neon pink onesie with a giant flamingo on it. "Because you need a flamingo onesie, right?" she said, raising her eyebrows.
I couldn't help it-I laughed. It was the most absurd thing I'd ever seen, and honestly, it was exactly what I needed to cheer up. "Zoe, what in the world?" I said, trying to hold back my laughter.
She grinned and pulled out another item-a pair of baby shoes shaped like tacos. "And these! Just imagine it, Sarah. Your baby, rocking taco shoes. Adorable, right?" I burst into laughter. "Those are amazing! I'm so glad you've got my baby's fashion sense all figured out." Zoe shrugged, pretending to be serious. "What can I say? I'm a trendsetter." I wiped a tear from the corner of my eye, still giggling. "Thank you, Zoe. Seriously. This is exactly what I needed." Zoe sat down besideon the bed, her eyes softening. "I know it's tough right now. Pregnancy is not always fun. And you're balancing so much-work, family, everything. But you've got this, Sarah. You've always been so strong." I smiled at her, feeling a lump in my throat. "Thanks, Zoe. I don't always feel strong. But I appreciate you saying that." She gavea playful shove. "Hey, you're the one who's been running the company, handling everything like a pro. So don't start acting like you don't get it together." "I don't always feel like I do," I admitted. "It's just... a lot sometimes. I don't want to let anyone down, but at the stime, I don't know how to slow down." Zoe's expression softened. "You don't have to do it all, Sarah. You've got people who've got your back. Richard, me, the whole team. We're all here. So take a break when you need to. You don't always have to be the one to hold everything up." I nodded, letting her words sink in. "I'm trying. It's just hard, you know? I don't know how to step back." Zoe smiled and stood up. "You'll figure it out. And until then, I'll keep bringing you ridiculous maternity gifts to keep you distracted." I laughed, feeling a little lighter than I had in hours. "You're the best." By the evening, I was feeling much better. The nausea had finally passed, and I was able to get out of bed and join the others for dinner.
The restaurant was casual, with an outdoor pathat overlooked the city, and the evening air was warm and comfortable.
Richard was already there, chatting with Zoe and a few other members of the team. As soon as he saw me, his face lit up with relief. "You feeling better?" he asked, standing up to greet me.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmI nodded, feeling grateful that I was no longer stuck in bed. "Much better, thanks. I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to worry you." He gavea soft smile. "You don't have to apologize. I just... I don't like seeing you sick." I felt a little guilty, knowing he'd been so worried about me. "I'm fine now. Really." Zoe, who had been watching our exchange, leaned over and whispered, "Richard's a bit of a worrywart, isn't he?" I laughed. "You have no idea."
The dinner was relaxed, full of jokes and laughter. Zoe kept teasing Richard about his overproofXOoverprotectiveness, calling him "the human security blanket" and saying that the only thing he was missing was a helmet to keepsafe. I couldn't help but laugh along with everyone, feeling grateful for the people who were making this trip more fun than I'd expected.
As the evening wore on, the conversation turned to silly stories from the office, and we all took turns teasing Richard about how much he liked to hover.
Even though I was still adjusting to everything, I felt a sense of peace sitting there with them. It wasn't just about the work or the pregnancy; it was about being surrounded by people who cared aboutand madelaugh, even when I didn't feel my best.
By the tdessert came, I was full of good food and good companyn The laughter, the teasing, the light-hearted conversations-it was exactly what I needed. "Alright," Richard said with a grin, "who's ready for another round of ridiculous gifts?" Zoe raised her hand immediately. "I'm in! I've got more ideas for baby gear that you'll love." We all laughed, and I felt lighter than I had in days.
